The Australian Women in Wine Awards (AWIWA) – which are owned and operated by The Fabulous Ladies’ Wine Society —work to celebrate and reward the work of women in the Australian wine community, and community leaders who champion equality and fairness for all sexes in the workplace.
The AWIWA, set up in 2015, are the only awards program for women in wine worldwide. Previous Riverland winners include Jenny Semmler (Owner/Operator of the Year, 2016) and Jasmine Morgan (Cellar Door Person of the Year, 2017).
This year two more Riverland ‘Women in Wine’ joined the winners circle. Nicole Pitman, Viticultural Technical Officer for Kingston Estate Wine, was named Viticulturist of the Year and Lynda Schenk, who assists Riverland Wine in many facet, Marketer of the Year. Newly appointed RWIDC committee member Shirley Fraser, Marketing and Sales Manager for Byrne Vineyards, was also a finalist in the Marketer of the Year
This year’s the awards ceremony were held at Quay on Sydney Harbour, as part of the first ever Australian Women in Wine Symposium with over 100 attendees. The morning session preceding the awards, comprised of guest speakers and networking opportunities,
The AWIWA also announced that, in partnership with Wine Australia, the 2019 Awards will be held in New York in September as part of Aussie Wine Month, which is set to be the largest Australian wine promotion ever held in the USA.
