Calling all Riverland Women in Wine

Due to a recent partnership between Wine Australia and the Australian Women in Wine Awards (AWIWA), the key dates for the 2017 awards have been brought forward from November to Tuesday, September 26.  Nominations are open right now, so think about nominating one or more of the Riverland Women in Wine who give so much and add so much value to our industry and our region.

This year, the winners will be announced as part of an awards ceremony and tasting at Australia House in London.  The event will be streamed live, around the globe, direct from the London event. “We’re thrilled with the exciting direction the awards are taking this year” says AWIWA way founder, Jane Thomson.  “These are the world’s only wine awards for women.  And with the world’s attention now on us, and an opportunity to shine on the global stage in London, we’re hoping the entire Australian wine community will get behind it and we’ll have a record number of entries in 2017.”

Two new awards – Marketer of Year and Woman of Inspiration – have been included bringing the number of categories to eight.  The other awards are:

  • Winemaker of the Year
  • Viticulturist of the Year
  • Owner/Operator of the Year
  • Workplace Champion of Change
  • Cellar Door Person of the Year
  • Researcher of the Year

Entries for this year’s awards close on August 1 and finalists will be announced in mid-August. Last year the Riverland tasted success with Jenny Semmler and Kate Strachan being finalists in the Owner/Operator and Viticulturist categories with Jenny winning the award in her category.  Jenny will be travelling to London and participating in this year’s awards ceremony at Australia House.

More information about the awards is available on the AWIWA website.
