Many grape growers in the region are fortunate to have contracts to sell their grapes each year. Everyone knows, particularly in trying times, a contract eases the burden of selling.
Those who are not so fortunate to have a contract are often left to shoulder the burden to sell their year’s labour and inputs.
The majority make numerous calls to wineries in the hope that they can find a buyer but the results of those calls are more often than not, demoralising.
As in previous vintages, Riverland Wine again assisted growers by compiling a register of unsold grapes. Members advised the office details of varieties and tonnes of grapes available for sale, together with their email address and phone numbers.
This vintage the number of tonnes registered has been a lot lighter than previous vintages.
