Successful business owners agree that having accurate information is vital for making business decisions. To achieve a business goal, it is crucial to be able to (accurately) measure income and (all) expenses. It's often easy to work 'in' your business instead of working 'on' your business. It is absolutely essential to spend some time each week reviewing your business and understanding your numbers.
The future of the wine industry was on people's minds last Friday. Riverland Wine hosted the peak wine industry body Winemakers' Federation of Australia (WFA) in a presentation at the Berri Hotel. WFA oversees the interests of winemakers in a number of policy areas at the federal level. The Federation recently published a review of the industry including 33 recommended actions to address a range of challenges and opportunities confronting our industry.
The first event of the Riverland Wine and Food Festival was a brilliant, movie Red Obsession – a thought provoking documentary about red wine screened at the Chaffey Theatre on Thursday evening. Patrons were invited to taste sample fabulous wines proudly promoted by Basshams Winery, Salena Estate and Growers Gate. Supper was provided by the Chaffey Theatre. Red wines showed included medal winning varieties such as Shiraz, Lagrein, and Montepulciano. These wines truly illustrate the quality and variety of wines produced in the Riverland – we have a lot to be proud of. Riverland Wine commends the Chaffey for bringing Red Obsession to the region, and sharing the evening with our passionate Riverland wine producers.
Last week's two spray technology workshops, reported above, were a great example of Riverland growers working closely with the Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation (GWRDC) as part of this region's determination to farm smarter not harder.
