For the second successive week the Riverland Wine Centre at Lyrup has grabbed the headlines! Although it didn’t feel like it on Monday morning, with temperatures back below zero, more than 300 people celebrated the end of winter and welcomed spring at the Budburst Festival at the Pike River Centre last Saturday. The afternoon was warm with a light breeze. The wines were shone brightly, the food was excellent as was the music.
Ten (small-ish) local producers showed-off some of their best wines; once again revealing what brilliant wine comes from the Riverland. The range and diversity of red, white, organic and sparkling wines gave the supporters plenty to enjoy, compare and share. These may be small steps for our persevering ‘Gems’ and budding producers alike, but the word is spreading. Recognition is building and it won’t be long before the Riverland Wine Centre will have to think about extensions!
There will soon be more dates to go in your Riverland Wines diary. Val and Bruce Bassham will be hosting another fun day soon and Rob and Irene Cordy of Mundoo Ridge Wines, Moorook will also be doing likewise. Keep an eye on this column for details as they come to hand and make sure you get along to try the wines, offer feedback and support our friends who are all proud to be making great wine for the best of times right here in our region, Australia’s true outback wine region.
Special thanks again to Andrew and Bronny Caire for their vision and for taking the initiative to build a wine centre we can all be proud to take our visitors to whenever they drop in.
