The Winegrape Council of South Australia (WGCSA) and South Australian Wine Industry Association (SAWIA) are inviting all winegrape grower members in the Riverland to a free workshop and BBQ lunch at the Riverland Field Days site on Tuesday, November 26.

The ‘Getting Ready for Vintage Workshop’ will include a not to be missed presentation by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) regarding transport and heavy vehicle requirements for the upcoming harvest period. It is essential that all grape growers understand their responsibilities during harvest time with regards to the Chain of Responsibility along with the registration and safety requirements for harvesting equipment and procedures during this busy time.

In recent years we have seen an increased presence of enforcement on roads and at wineries and this vintage will be no exception. SAWIA will also run a Getting Ready for Vintage Workshop for winery members the following day in Berri at a cost of $120 for SAWIA and WGCSA members.

The grower workshop will also include a presentation by Retallick Viticulture on the recently announced EcoVineyards project. EcoVineyards is a 2-year project being rolled out in eight wine grape growing regions in South Australia. The EcoVineyards concept incorporates native insectory plants to create biodiverse ecosystems in and around vineyards with an end goal of reducing reliance on pesticides, improving the natural amenity and saving time and money through reduced inputs in the vineyard and to further promote the Riverland region as ‘clean and green’ to international customers.

Riverland growers selected in the program include John and Luke Lory, Brett Rosensweig – Rosy Ridge Farms and Sheridan Alm – Starrs Reach Vineyards who will also be available throughout the day to talk about their project.

If you would like to attend this free event, please register via the WGCSA Eventbrite page.
