20 million trees program

As Riverland winegrowers we take pride in managing the environment we grow grapes in by being efficient irrigators, being mindful of our responsibilities regarding chemical use and managing soil health. We know wine consumers increasingly seek reassurances that we produce our premium wine from a clean environment.

The Australian Government is seeking feedback from organisations interested in being involved in its 20 Million Trees Program which will embrace large-scale revegetation projects across the country.

The program has four strategic objectives:

  • to plant 20 million trees;
  • to encourage environmental conservation;
  • to engage communities and
  • to reduce Carbon emissions

The 20 Million Trees program is an important part of the National Landcare Program and proposed projects include: re-establishing green corridors and urban forests; increasing and improving habitat to support threatened species; and creating greener spaces to improve the liveability of Australian cities and towns. The Government has committed $50 million over four years to the program, with funding to commence from 2014-15.
