It’s almost 12 months since the first strategic plan between Riverland winegrowers and winemakers was presented at the AGM.
The five core themes of the plan have been developed around:
• leadership engagement
• research development and extension
• growing the market and
• achieving profitability and sustainability
Much of the progress has been reported regularly through the weekly news columns and e- flyers sent to all growers and winemakers (with email addresses) each Friday morning. With so many competing challenges and the ongoing worries around pricing (of grapes and wine), water security, confusing market signals and simply hoping to make ends meet, it’s not easy to keep track of strategic initiatives.
Besides the usual AGM business, there will be a special presentation outlining initiatives and activities being undertaken and implemented in fulfilment of the plan. Unquestionably, the fifth theme: achieving profitability and sustainability is still some way off for the great majority of members. Nevertheless, there are many examples of progress against the plan where Riverland Wine has developed relationships and implemented a range of programs that will enable this region’s winegrowers and winemakers to be well placed for the new era.
Make it a date to attend the AGM to review progress and achievements reported against the plan within the first twelve months. Members will be granted the opportunity to comment and have input. The plan is frequently reviewed to ensure it remains relevant, reflecting the changing needs of members based on market conditions, research, development, new knowledge and improved management practices. Activities and programmes plan for the next twelve months will also be outlined.
