Jim Markeas was beaming (again) this week. Several weeks ago he returned from China after taking part in the widely acclaimed, successful SA trade mission with Premier Weatherill and other producers from across the state. He was particularly proud that the Mallee Estate Cabernet Sauvignon had been chosen as one of just three outstanding SA wines chosen For the Gala Dinner at the conclusion of the tour.
This week’s big smiles followed news from the USA that just last week that three of his wines, the 2014 Sauvignon Blanc, the 2010 P & E Shiraz and the 2013 Shiraz were each awarded silver medals at the prestigious New York International Wine Competition (NYIWC). In addition Mallee Estate also picked up the 2015 Riverland Producer of the Year award at the same competition. The very special 2010 P and E Shiraz honours Jim’s parents, Peter and Elini who migrated from Greece in the 1960s with the dream of owning their own vineyard and producing their own wine.
This latest success adds to the accolades received in April when four of Mallee Estates Wines were awarded 88 points each by Anthony Dias Blue of influential The Tasting Panel magazine in the USA. http://digital.copcomm.com/i/488317-april-2015
In his customary bashful style Jim said “I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved. This is great recognition for Mallee Estate Wines but just as importantly recognition of the fine wines we can consistently produce right here in the Riverland”. We couldn’t agree more. Riverland Wine congratulates Jim, Arthur, Peter and Elini for their hard work and perseverance in growing, processing and promoting their wines to the world.
