Australia’s grape and wine producers unite

In recent months members have been informed about the amalgamation of the two peak industry bodies, Australian Vignerons (AV) and the Winemakers Federation of Australia (WFA). Riverland Wine members have applauded the union of the two organisations and have moved to ensure communication lines between the stakeholders in Australia’s largest wine producing region are wide open.

Many members will have heard Tony Battaglene, Chief Executive of the new organisation address meetings at Berri in December. Tony has since written to the Association to express his confidence in this region’s strategic approach particularly regarding research and development, communication services, knowledge of global market and how they impact stakeholders along the value chain and the willingness of this region’s growers and winemakers to be involved in forming positions and setting policy for future success.

Riverland Wine is pleased to endorse the appointment of Andrew Weeks to the inaugural board of the amalgamated body. Bill Moularadellis of Kingston Estate Wines is also a member of the board. At the most recent meeting of Riverland Wine it was agreed that the organisation will meet with Andrew and Bill before each meeting of the new peak body to ensure that this region’s growers and winemakers have every opportunity to provide input and to support and promote good policy as it is developed.
