Let’s grab this opportunity to nominate one of our own from the Riverland.
There are plenty in our midst who are contributing enormously to the promotion and growth of ‘Australia’s most popular wine’ region! Names like Nicole Pitman, Melanie Kargas, Sheridan Alm, Val Bassham, Victoria Angove, Pam Barich, Ivanka Moularadellis, Elise Byrne, Christine Caudo, Jenny Semmler, Shirley Fraser de Zolt, Keryn Gorman are just a few of the names that come to mind. Readers of this column will know dozens more. Many remain unrecognised but in truth, our region could not be what it is without them; regularly contributing and delivering well beyond exceptional efforts to lift the region’s reputation.
Closing date for nominations is October 3, so there’s no time to waste.
This year two new award categories have been created for women who conduct significant wine industry research, and those who work at the front line educating the thousands of wine loving customers visiting winery cellar doors across the country.
The 2016 AWIWA categories are:
- Winemaker of the Year
- Viticulturist of the Year
- Owner/Operator of the Year
- Workplace Champion of Change
- Researcher of the Year
- Cellar Door Operator of the Year
Entries for this year’s awards close on October 3 and finalists will be announced in mid-October. The winners will be announced on November 15 via a live online broadcast and wineries are encouraged to host a celebration event.
More information about the awards is available on the AWIWA website: www.womeninwineawards.com.au.
