Congratulations Sheridan!

Wine Australia and the Fabulous Women in Wine Society convened a large gathering of wine industry champions in New York last week to introduce finalists and announce winners for the Australian Women in Wine Awards (AWIWA).  

Established in 2015, the AWIWA are the only awards program for women in wine worldwide. The event was attended by nearly 40 Australian female wine producers and the invitation only guest list also included an additional 100+ trade, media and dignitaries.

There was excitement and joy at New Residence, where a small group who had gathered to watch a live stream of the ceremony, when Loxton winegrape grower Sheridan Alm was announced as the Viticulturist of the Year winner.

A former chair of the Riverland Winegrape Growers’ Association, Sheridan is involved in the strategic direction and management of Starrs Reach Vineyards. She is a skilled viticulturist with an integrated pest management focus and believes in empowering farmers with a strong voice and better business tools.

Chris Byrne, Executive Chair of Riverland Wine, said, “The AWIWA was a wonderful celebration honouring a fabulous woman of wine from our proud region. We congratulate Sheridan for being recognised nationally, and internationally, and we thank her for her ongoing contribution to the Riverland wine industry”.

Previous Riverland winners include Jenny Semmler (Owner/Operator of the Year, 2016) and Jasmine Morgan (Cellar Door Person of the Year, 2017), Nicole Pitman (Viticulturist of the Year, 2018) and Lynda Schenk (Marketer of the Year, 2018).
