Put your thinking caps on now! Think of the women in our industry who have taken on the great challenge of leadership in farming businesses. There are plenty of them, often the unsung heroes that go quietly about ‘making it happen’ on the home front and in business. Nominations are now open for the 2016 Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC) Rural Women’s Award. The award is open to all women across Australia involved in primary industries and/or rural Australia, and nominations close on October 30 2015.
The RIRDC Rural Women’s Award is Australia’s pre-eminent award for rural women, recognising and encouraging emerging women leaders who have the desire, commitment and leadership potential to make a greater contribution to primary industries and rural communities.
Each state winner will be awarded a $10,000 financial bursary to implement a project or initiative that will benefit primary industries and rural Australia. They also have the opportunity to undertake the AICD Company Directors Course and receive support to develop an individual integrated leadership plan.
South Australia’s state winner will represent SA in the national award. The national winner will receive a further $10,000 and the national runner-up a further $5,000 in addition to their bursary as state winner, to assist in meeting national commitments such as speaking engagements.
Let’s make sure that the Riverland is well represented. This region has an abundance of women all worthy of this award in the great recognition it will bring for that special person.
