Five boutique wine producers are collaborating for the Riverland’s first Small Winemakers Showcase. 919 Wines is proud to host four small wine producers without their own cellar door on Saturday, April 13 at their Glossop winery. They will be joined by Spook Hill, of Cadell, Top Block (Monash), Mundoo Ridge (Moorook) and Junnare Wines (Berri).
“The Riverland is home to some of the world’s largest wine producers, but a growing number of small wine producers are now challenging the notion that this is all that the Riverland can do,” said organiser, Jenny Semmler. “This showcase will give people an opportunity to taste the quality and diversity of the small producer talent in the region. These producers are so small that they don’t have a regular cellar door and often don’t participate in festivals and similar events. They typically produce less than 20 tonnes a year, so each batch is individually made to express the best characteristics of the fruit and the vision of the producer.”
919 and Spook Hill were both established in the 2000s and have been building their presence both within the region and further abroad since then. Top Block was started in Monash four years ago and Mundoo Ridge and Junnare Wines are new producers less than 12 months old.
“Visitors will get the opportunity to meet each producer and hear their stories of how they came to produce wine, the background of the varieties they have selected and what they hope to achieve in the future. We encourage people to buy a glass of wine, some Italian food from the food truck, and kick back and enjoy some entertainment and the fabulous Riverland weather.”
The showcase is at 919 Wines in Glossop on Saturday 13th April from 10am-5pm. Entry is free.
