Some growers across the region are reporting problems with vines on rootstocks declining and in some cases dying. This seems commonly but not always related to Ruggeri rootstock. Testing of some of these vines has shown the presence of a fungus known as ‘blackfoot’. However, this organism is common in soil and it does not always result in vine death. The real cause of the problem is not known. CCW growers will most likely have been contacted by their viticulture officers to discuss this issue.
Any growers who are not contracted to CCW, and who have concerns that they may have a similar problem are invited to contact Riverland Wine and record their details with Kate Kroemer phone 8584 5816 or email.
Riverland Wine will keep in touch with the problem and will provide updates as information becomes available.
